Osteopathy is a therapeutic discipline which takes an holistic approach to restoring balance to the musculo-skeletal, nervous, digestive or circulatory system.

Various manual techniques (joint manipulation, muscle energy techniques, joint pumping, stretching, functional techniques and many others) are used on the injured tissues identified during the diagnosis. This complete and individual assessment of the patient also considers their body system and physical, mental and social environment.

There are three groups of osteopathy, depending on which area the technique focuses. These are:

Structural osteopathy:

This focuses on musculoskeletal tissue and traumatic or functional injuries. It can be used for the treatment of the spine (stiff neck and other neck pain, back pain, lumbago, sciatica), and the arms and legs (sprains, tendinopathy, muscle spasms).

Cranial osteopathy:

Targeted treatment of cranio-mandibular joint problems and the whole cranio-sacral relationship between the membranes of the brain and cerebrospinal fluid. Muscular and postural imbalances, stress and trauma can all affect the cranial nerves, glands and arteries which pass through the skull to the brain. These disorders can affect chewing, vision and hearing, and cause neuralgia, dizziness and headaches, among others.

Internal osteopathy:

Restores the tissues involved in the operation of the internal organs (muscles, nerves, blood vessels, and areas of movement between organs). Improves mobility and blood supply. Works for gastrointestinal, cardio-respiratory, circulatory or uro-gynaecological conditions.
